    FARGO — The Fargo Rotary Club is honoring 100 years of serving the community with a celebration at the Radisson Hotel here on Thursday, June 29. The celebration will begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4:30 p.m., followed by dinner and entertainment. Travis Christopher, president of the Fargo Rotary Club, said the club was established June 17, 1917, by 24 business leaders. It was the 317th Rotary Club created in the world. A few original members include printer S.F. Knight, Forum publisher Norman Black, and florist W.B. Shotwell. Knight Printing, Forum Communications and Shotwell Floral and Greenhouse all remain prominent businesses in the area. Continue Reading →

    As a teenager, Miquette Denie McMahon received a scholarship to attend high school in Detroit Lakes, Minn., and Fargo. McMahon later earned a degree in nursing from Concordia College.     Mel Tangen and his wife, Lourdes, recently returned from a trip to Honduras where they helped put a tin roof on a new community/activities center in the mountain village of Nuevo Celilac. The couple first met in Honduras during one of Tangen’s trips with other Rotary District 5580 members, which encompasses 66 clubs in all of North Dakota, the northern part of Minnesota, a bit of Wisconsin and Ontario, Canada.     Like most 9-year-olds, Garrett Grommesh likes baseball. When he plays, it becomes more of a workout for his mom and dad.That's because Grommesh is paralyzed from the waist down with spina bifida and is confined to a wheelchair all the time. That will all change thanks to a Rotary project that will build Miracle Field - a baseball field with a rubber turf surface that will accommodate wheelchairs, walkers, crutches and braces.
